Volunteers

MHKA events wouldn't happen without the aid of our dedicated, energetic volunteers. Whether setting up equipment for agility, providing information to attendees, helping out the judges, or any number of essential duties, MHKA volunteers are the best! If you'd like to know how you can help at a specific event, contact the show chairperson and let her/him know. (We'll feed you, too.)

General Membership Meetings

Meetings of the general membership of the Mid-Hudson Kennel Association are held on the second Wednesday of every month, at 7:30 pm, at the Starr Library on Market Street in Rhinebeck, NY (map). Guests are always welcome to attend. For anyone considering joining MHKA or getting involved in dog activities, attending an MHKA meeting is a good first step.

During winter months, meetings are occasionally canceled due to snow and poor road conditions. Notice of cancellation will appear in the blue bar on the MHKA website home page, so check for updates. If in doubt, email MHKA for information.

Educational programs are held at meetings at least three times a year, benefiting the average pet owner as well as Club members. We hold a potluck dinner in September, dessert potluck in December (weather permitting), and an annual awards banquet in March. Elections are held yearly during the October meeting, with nominations for officers made at the prior September meeting. (A person must be a member of MHKA for at least one year before being eligible to run for a club office.)

Members may participate in the club in a variety of ways, including:

  • organizing or helping at events,
  • serving as an officer or board member,
  • mentoring new members,
  • presenting educational programs to the club and/or local schools,
  • donating trophies,
  • participating in "meet the breed" events,
  • photographing or videorecording MHKA activities,
  • and many others.

For more information about meetings or joining the Mid-Hudson Kennel Association, contact the Corresponding Secretary.
